I’ll never understand what type of shit show these companies must be running to have these issues. When I worked for a large company, if this would have happened it would have kinda sucked. We would have had to restore everything from backups. Something that we practiced doing twice a year.

This makes no sense. Why would any company pay ransomware?

Just restore from backup and fire or educate the idiots who clicked the ransomware link.

Surely there are not companies the size of Garmin that do not have very comprehensive backup solutions in place? I realise they will lose a few days or maybe a week of data from reverting. But they will lose the same when umming and ahhing over whether to pay the ransomware and un-encrypting anyway.

Is there something I am missing here? I will admit most of my experience has been with small and mid sized company IT – so maybe it is different with large multi-nationals?
