Found a USB micro SD card reader, laying around the house and opened it, just to find a black spot inside?!?! As I feel embarrass to ask this, but is this USB some sort of hacking ware? Just curious. I did almost plugged this into my pc.

    It’s an epoxy blob, basically an alternative way for them to package the chip. It makes reverse engineering extremely hard and tends to be cheaper to do, therefore why you’ll see it pretty frequently. Nothing really of note, should be safe to use

    Its the chip (Chip on board it is called)
    Just the needed logic to read out the sd card and send through usb.

    Its likely just some glue or what ever to keep that particular component on the board, its not something to worry about
