They said they had a password, which is a password I have for frequent sites. Not any that contain any personal information on me. They claim they used a “porn site” and an RDP, as well as a double screen recorder. I’m absolutely aware this is a scam, but how did my password get out in the first place?

You can check [https://haveibeenpwned.com/](https://haveibeenpwned.com/) to see if any of your passwords has been leaked.

Scammers use the same lists that have the email and password combo that gets compromised. They then send the email showing you they have your password and try to extort you by saying they’re going to show all the naughty things you did when they recorded you with your cam. I get about 10 of those a day, they go directly into spam.

Never use the same password for more than 1 website. But yes: a scam it is.

Just ignore it. Me and other people I know get emails like this all the time. Nothing has actually ever happened.

It’s a fairly common scam called sextortion. Whatever password they showed you likely came from a breached site or service you’ve used.
