MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) –
Just as the school year begins, Marion County Public School workers say they are coping with a data breach.
According to a press release from MCPS, workers were notified of the breach by the educational company Pearson.
While the breach involves names, birthdates and email addresses for students enrolled from 2010 to 2017, which is considered public record under Florida public records laws, no confidential information was exposed.
Much of the data is about students who have moved on and are no longer part of the district.
Potentially impacted students will be contacted via mail at their last known address.
