OnePlus 9 Pro is among the most rumored phones on the internet right now, and it may be because of a few drastic changes that you will possibly see in the ninth version of the OnePlus. The images continue to leak on the internet but the most distinct one appears to be an OnePlus phone with a slightly different design, as revealed by Dave2D. OnePlus is notorious for keeping things symmetrical, at least on the edges of the phone. The leaked images showcase a silver-rim that is slightly curved around the notification slider and the power button. The exterior design appears not too vibrant until you turn to the backside. The backside features a quad array of cameras that bear the branding of Hasselblad.
So, what is Hasselblad doing on a smartphone?
Well, the company, if you don’t know, is a pioneer in manufacturing expensive camera gear. Pairing their concept of the camera in a smartphone will not come cheap, both for OnePlus or its consumers. The earlier rumors of the OnePlus 9 Pro sporting a Zeiss camera module were circling the web, but not with Hasselblad into the picture, you may not see Zeiss at least this year.
Pete Lau, the current CEO of OnePlus did disclose a strategy that focused on improving the camera on the OnePlus devices. The existing camera modules are good, but they are nothing as compared to what the folks at Samsung, Huawei, or Apple are doing. This stern approach at improving the camera module can actually make OnePlus be strong in its single area of incompetence. That being said I like the existing camera of the OnePlus that produces a perfect blend of pictures powered by the lenses and the AI post-processing.
The internal camera application also hints at a 3.3X zoom rather than the 3x zoom you see on the OnePlus 8 Pro. A tilt-shift feature is to be introduced with the newer OnePlus and may also make it to earlier gen devices. One more peculiar thing about the leaked specifications is the seemingly odd capacity of the RAM module. At 11 gigs, I’m not sure why would that even stuff it in a prototype. Storage is capped at 256 GB in the images but given the interesting camera module, the storage can be upped to accommodate the growing size of images. The processor that will be used in the OnePlus 9 Pro has to be a Snapdragon 888 because currently there aren’t other processors for flagships by the company.
OnePlus 9 Pro might do the Dimensity 1000 chips by Mediatek, although it would not be a smart move considering the hot reputation of Mediatek processors. The display that I saw in the renders showcased 6.55 inches, meaning that the phone will surely be a tall affair. An LTPO display with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz could make it into the OnePlus 9 Pro. Apple iPhone 13 is also rumored to have a similar 120 Hz LTPO display, that will save the tiny battery that is paired with most iPhones. As for now, a Hasselblad camera module with a new LTPO display appears a definite possibility on the OnePlus 9 Pro.
