President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro accused the US of launching a “cyberattack” against power facilities in his country, while holding a meeting with his cabinet in Caracas on Tuesday.
According to Maduro, the attack was launched from Houston and Chicago.
“The cyberattack against the electrical system, against the telecommunications system, against the Internet was directed from two US cities. The persecution against Venezuela was ordered by the Pentagon, directly by the southern command,” the president claimed.
Maduro also stated that he would seek the support of allies such as Russia, China, Iran and Cuba in investigating the incident. He also recalled that Venezuela had given US diplomats 72 hours to leave the country.
Much of the country was left without electricity and running water for days following a huge power outage that occurred in Venezuela on Thursday, March 7.
