Xbox Live Down?
If you think that Xbox Live isn’t working on your end, you are not alone. After continuously fiddling for successfully establishing a connection, I checked the Xbox Support Twitter page to see if it affected only a bunch of users or most of them. The service was down for more than five hours and caused panic among the users. It seems that the issue was not limited to the console users only and as encountered by pretty much any user that had to sign-in using the Xbox Live. Xbox status page attributed the issue to affect Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox consoles, Android devices, iOS devices, Windows application, and web services.
Like always, Xbox did not disclose the details regarding what caused the outage and kept silent on the matter. Their Twitter handle was active and pacified a lot of consumers about the issue being resolved as quickly as possible. During the outage, which was labeled as a major outage by Xbox, users were unable to install or download updates to the consoles. Similarly, Games and gameplay also suffered a heavy blow and was also labeled as major outages which affected a major chunk of the user base.
In a tweet, Xbox said “We are aware that users may not be able to sign-in to Xbox Live at this time. Our teams are currently investigating to fix this issue. We will update here and on http://xbox.com/status when we have more information to share!”.
It further added a response “Our teams are continuing their investigation and have found that users experiencing sign-in issues may have issues with Purchasing Content and Party Chat as well. We will send additional updates here and on http://xbox.com/status when we have more information to share.”
Xbox outages are common, especially with Xbox Live. It is imperative to note that not all devices may be affected by the outage but anything requiring a sign-in process to Xbox Live is bound to return an error. The major outage was reported last year when the new consoles launched in November. The issue was all patched-up after six hours and was confirmed by the official Xbox Support Twitter handle with the tweet “Users should once again be able to sign-in, complete purchases and join chat sessions. Thank you for your patience and as always, we’re listening.”
To check for future outages and their scope, you can visit the Xbox Status page that contains the details about the issue report time and date, affected devices, core issues, and much more.
